Democratic activist and content creator Isaiah Martin thanked Brazil on social media Wednesday, Nov. 4, after Democrats won majorities in both chambers of the U.S. Congress in the midterm elections. He said Brazil had “shown us the way.”
In a post, Martin wrote, “Thank you, Brazil, for showing us the way!” He followed the message with an enthusiastic “It’s exploding!”—a phrase associated with Brazilian federal deputy André Janones.
The elections were held Tuesday, Nov. 3. The results marked a major setback for President Donald Trump, who lost his party’s majority in Congress, according to the report.
Janones coordinates the WhatsApp channel “Exército do Lula,” or “Lula’s Army,” which mobilized supporters of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in a social media campaign. Martin’s use of “It’s exploding!” referenced an expression used by Janones.
