Eduardo Bolsonaro Says He Is Not Worried About Democrats’ Actions Against Him and Flávio in the U.S.

Eduardo Bolsonaro, a former Brazilian federal deputy whose seat was revoked, said he is not concerned about possible efforts by Democratic lawmakers to question or take action against him and his brother, Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro. His comments followed the Democrats’ strong showing in the U.S. midterm elections and marked his first public response to the results.

Eduardo made the remarks in an interview with Joey Mannarino, a right-wing American influencer, before attending the Conservative Political Action Conference at Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s resort in Florida. “They will try [to take measures against us], but Congress here in the United States does not have the authority to revoke visas or citizenship. So I am not very afraid of that,” Eduardo said. He also said he is in the country legally, as is Flávio.

Democrats gained at least 18 seats in the House of Representatives and seven in the Senate, overturning Republican majorities in both chambers. The party is set to control the federal legislature beginning in January 2027, when newly elected members take office. With majorities in both chambers, Democrats will have greater latitude to scrutinize the Trump administration and investigate U.S. officials’ conduct in matters involving the Bolsonaro brothers. The new balance of power could also lead to closer examination of ties between Trump administration officials and the Bolsonaro family.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat, is among 25 members of Congress who signed a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio seeking explanations about Flávio’s departure from Brazil and his entry into the United States. Rubio and the State Department have until Nov. 13 to review the letter’s 15 questions, provide written responses and make officials available to answer lawmakers’ questions.

The Democrats’ victory does not mean the brothers will be deported. Control of Congress does not give lawmakers direct authority to order the deportation of foreign nationals; immigration policy is administered by the executive branch through agencies including the Department of Homeland Security.

Flávio arrived in the United States the week before the report, after leaving Brazil following his defeat in the presidential race’s second round against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He traveled through Argentina, contrary to an order by Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes that he surrender his passports. In Brazil, Flávio is under investigation over suspected money laundering in inquiries involving his relationship with attorney Willer Tomaz and the financing of “Dark Horse,” a film about former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Eduardo has lived in the United States since February 2025. Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court sentenced him to four years and two months in prison for coercion during legal proceedings. Before the election, he publicly urged his brother to leave Brazil if he lost at the polls.
